Wilshire Boulevard Temple, completed in 1929, has a large coffered dome and decorated with interior murals by Hugo Ballin.
Working under KC Restoration, We revitalized the extensive gold leaf; the oculus, capitals, the organ grill and immense arches.
Definition- An oculus (plural oculi, from Latin oculus, ‘eye’) is a circular opening in the centre of a dome or in a wall. Originating in antiquity, it is a feature of Byzantine and Neoclassical architecture.
The oculus at the top of the dome was KC Restoration project. We brush vacuumed the lettering and in-painted where the mural was damaged.
Efflorescence, the salts and minerals that rise to the surface after water damage, is a common repair in restoration. After neutralizing the surface we in-paint the decoration to look as it was originally.
